Overview

We are offering a new education class pack for primary schools.

Can be fit around themes such as Science Week, Black History Month and World Art Day for example.

Science Week infused with Art Activities

This Science Week, Art4Space invites students to explore the wonders of science through creative art activities, guided by facilitator Charlene Skyers. These workshops will ignite curiosity, enhance learning, and allow students to express scientific concepts through a variety of art forms—whether it’s collage, painting, or sculpture. With activities designed to complement the UK Science Curriculum at all levels, this workshop encourages creativity while deepening students’ understanding of key scientific principles.

“Art in Action: Exploring the Science of Nature Through Creativity”

Science focus: Exploring materials, forces, and nature.
EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) – Topic choices:

  • Animal Sculptures in Clay: Students will sculpt their favourite animal using air-dry clay. They can explore different textures and shapes while learning about the animal’s habitat and characteristics.
  • Sensory Water Paints of the Seasons: In this engaging activity, students will explore the four seasons through sensory water paints. Using watercolours, they will create seasonal artwork by blowing paint around with straws, allowing for unique, flowing designs. To enhance the experience, each season will be paired with specific scents—such as fresh flowers for spring, sun-warmed grass for summer, cinnamon for autumn, and crisp pine for winter. As they paint and smell, students will discuss the changes in nature and emotions associated with each season, fostering a deeper connection to the environment and their senses. Each participant will take home a vibrant, sensory representation of their favourite season.

Black History Month Art Class Pack

Future Guardians

This Black History Month, pupils reflect on past pioneers to become future pioneers. Inspired by Nigerian artist Ben Enwonwu and his famous sculpture Anyanwu (currently on display at Tate Modern), students explore how art can act as a guardian of culture, history, and values. Pupils learn about Enwonwu’s life and impact on modern African art, celebrating Black heritage and resilience.

Connecting with the Terracotta Army in China and Antony Gormley’s Field, pupils discover how different cultures create guardians through sculpture. Each child will create their own clay guardian, imagining what it might protect — kindness, fairness, family, or the planet.

At the end of the day, schools can host a ‘Field of Guardians’ display, inviting parents and carers to celebrate the children’s work.

World’s Arts Day Workshop –

“A Journey Around the World Through Art”

In this immersive workshop, students will explore art from different continents, learning about the history, symbolism, and techniques behind various artistic traditions. Whether it’s African textiles, Indian rangoli patterns, Japanese origami, or Aboriginal dot painting students will connect the stories and traditions behind each art form to their own creative expression.

Each child will create a piece of artwork inspired by the global art traditions discussed using a variety of materials such as fabric, paper, paint, and natural elements. The workshop will not only celebrate the diversity of world art but also foster an appreciation for the cultural significance behind these creative practices.

EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) – Topic choices:
In EYFS, art is a key part of Expressive Arts and Design, where children use creativity to express themselves and explore the world around them.
Art Focus: Exploring textures, patterns, and cultural diversity
Art integration:

  • “Patterns and Textures from Africa”: Children will learn about the vibrant patterns in African textiles, and use fabric and paper to create their own textile art. They’ll explore how different cultures use patterns to express identity and tradition, all while developing fine motor skills through cutting, sticking, and fabric manipulation.
  • “Cultural Symbols from Around the World”: Through simple art projects, children will create cultural symbols like the Aboriginal dot patterns or Chinese lanterns, learning about the meaning behind these symbols while exploring colour, shape, and texture. Let’s celebrate World Arts Day by exploring and expressing the beauty of art from around the world!
